| Bow hunting in the Manistee National forest near Wellston
MI can be very exciting. This beautiful area also includes the Udell Hills area
which has the North Country Trail running
through it along with numerous species of game. I hunt within sight of the
trail. The deer are plentiful but very wary. With a little
effort you can find a nice deer trail to hunt on. The
bucks in this area are usually not of any size as they are
hunted quite heavily, but there are the exceptions (see the logs
tab above).

Public land is plentiful and
during bow season hunters are generally spread out. At times it seems as though you
have a whole section to yourself.
The availability of public land can be determined by looking at the county maps in the
following book. Please respect private land-owners.

The book, The Deer Hunter's Field Guide, Pursuing
Michigan's Whitetail can be very helpful in coming up with strategies for
out-smarting the deer in the area. I have read the book and used a lot of tips from
it. It can ordered by clicking on its image below.
