Bow Hunting - Wellston, MI October 3-5
Saw just one doe and her set of fawns.
Nothing within shooting distance.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 1-8
2002
Saw some decent numbers of deer, but no "shooters".
The weather co-operated better than some years in the past as we
had a decent cold snap, but no snow.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 26-27
Saw a bunch of does and fawns. Finally some activity at my
"go to location". Looking forward to next week's hunt.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 19-20
Nothing.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 4-6 2002
I did not see a thing, but the rest of our camp
did pretty good. My Scott Findlay and Greg Grobel took 4
and 5 point bucks respectively.

Bow Hunting Camp - Wellston MI, November 3-9
2001
Saw deer just about every time out. Had as many as 8
under my stand at a time. Bucks were few and far
between but I managed to grunt this buck in just after fist
light in the middle of the week. A typical Wellston 4
point.
Once again the Nugent blade did the job and this
one went 50 yds. Saw a monster buck chasing a smaller buck
through the woods during a search and recovery mission on
another deer taken by the camp.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 26-28 2001
Finally saw some deer for the first time this
year. So far mostly does, fawns, and button bucks.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 3-7 2000
Well we finally started seeing bucks for the
first time this week, and the bucks were going wild. The
weather was fantastic for the most part, dry and warm.
This is the longest into the season that we had ever gone
without seeing a buck. I did get to draw on a nice 4 point
on 11/6 in the evening, however he busted me when I drew and
that was the end of my chances. Scott Findlay took this nice four
point on 11/6.
There were other much larger bucks sighted but
they managed to evade our best efforts to take them.
That's what keeps you coming back the next year.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 21-22 2000
A beautiful weekend with highs in the upper 60's
and sunny. Saw lots of does and fawns but no bucks.
A one point I had 2 does and a fawn near me and heard another
deer approaching which I thought surely must be a buck, but it
was a 3rd doe. Unbelievable! Still no bucks sighted
by our hunting party this year. Took the picture below at
the misty dawn of a totally clear day. Saw a shooting star
on the way to my stand. Isn't this why we all hunt?
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, October 7-8 2000
A very wet/rainy/snowy weekend.
Unfortunately with no snow accumulation. Saw nothing
Saturday morning, then saw a doe and two fawn both Saturday
night and Sunday morning. Nothing that I wanted to shoot
at quite yet this season. No one saw any bucks the whole
weekend. Acorn crop appears to be very minimal this year.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 9 1999
Morning: Had a large buck come charging to my stand when I
grunted first thing in the morning. He sneaked up so that
he was directly under my stand without me knowing it. When
he saw no other deer in the area he knew something was wrong and
took off. Never got a good look at him. Saw a four
point wandering around my stand later in the morning.
Evening: Had a four point come in around 3:30. He
stuck around for at least 20 minutes before wandering off.
15 minutes before dark a doe came in. I heard a very deep
grunt and knew I better get ready. I grunted once and got
my bow in hand and release on. A large 11 pointer came in,
after the doe. At first he didn't present a good shot but
after he chased the doe off I got a shot.
Incredible! Having already shot a 5pt on opening day, I
didn't think that I would see another buck that I could legally
shoot. The second buck taken over Tedstosterone and
Wang Dang Sweet Doe Tang this year. Both with the Nugent
blade. Coincidence? I think not.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 8 1999
Morning: Nothing.
Evening: Nothing.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 7 1999
Morning: Grunted a 6 point buck close to stand but
couldn't get a shot.
Evening: Traded grunts with a buck that I never saw.
Saw a fawn near dark.
Bow Hunting - Wellston MI, November 6 1999
Morning: Saw 2 does and 4
fawns. Bucks grunting in the distance, probably following
the does.
Evening: Had a flock of wild turkeys wander under my
stand. Saw two fawns.
Bow Hunting near Wellston MI, October 30 1999
Morning: Had a doe and a fawn come by around 9:45. They
were followed by a nice four point, who was then followed by
what I think was a seven or eight point. The bucks stood
by and watched the doe as the rut is on. Thought the bucks
would face off and butt heads, but they never did.
Evening: Nothing happened till about an hour before dark.
The doe and her fawn came in again. They were followed by
a very nice curved spike. Another spike then showed up and
all stayed past dark. Deer started coming from all
directions at dark. They had me surrounded. Had to
break a stick on the tree to get them out of there.
Bow Hunting near Wellston MI, October 2 1999
Was only out for an hour in the evening due to bad
weather. Saw at least 6 does, and fawns pass
through. About 30 minutes later a buck with one 8"
spike came by. He looks like a unicorn. A much
larger buck (didn't get a good look at his antlers) came in and
kicked him out the the area. Apparently the
"unicorn" still hasn't learned his lesson.
Another member in our hunting party bagged a nice 6 point buck.
Bow Hunting near
Wellston MI, November 1998
This buck came in following a doe. Luckily I had already drawn on the doe
and when the buck passed through after her I was ready. The deer are incredibly
spooky in this area. The buck didn't go more than 5yds from where it was hit.

Bow Hunting near Wellston MI, November 1995
This was without a doubt our best year ever. You couldn't walk through the
woods without getting a deer. Four bucks were taken over a period of 4 days by a
total of three hunters. None of them went more than 50yds after being shot with a bow.
